For my own accounting, how much time has passed since The Avengers and Cap2? I think I found one source that stated a couple of years, but that doesn't seem right to me.

Also, based on the sweatshirt Sam is wearing in the opening scene, I am thinking he is part of the Air National Guard and thus likely helped clean up or provide aid to the civilians in New York after the attack. Everyone okay with this or can you think of a reason this is a bad idea? I figure he never got close to any of the Avengers, just helped with first aid and cleanup. He also wouldn't have had the Falcon suit, so likely wouldn't have stood out to any of you guys.

I've been assuming two years, based on various people saying time has passed as in real life.

I'm pretty sure canon flat-out states that it's been a year between The Avengers and Thor 2 (so two years between Thor 1 and Thor 2, at least for Earth time.) Unless there's been Word of God in an interview or something, we don't yet know how Thor 2 and Cap 2 match up, but Thor 2 has to be either simultaneous or (more likely) earlier since Darcy's still trying to call SHIELD during it. So two years between The Avengers and Cap 2 works for me.

And I have no objections at all to the Sam headcanon -- I like it! Admittedly Thor is probably the least entangled in Earth militaries and governmental systems of all the Avengers, but for what that's worth.
